Interview with Víctor Rodolfo Jiménez

Bruno Miguel Resende - What is cinema for you?

Víctor Rodolfo Jiménez - When I think of cinema, I remembered the magic that I felt when I was a kid in Cuba that has endured until today. Enjoying the storytelling unfolding

on the big screen in a darkened theater or at home It’s where emotions come

alive, characters leap off the celluloid, and narratives transport us to

different worlds. Cinema for me is a necessity and an escape from every day

life.

Bruno Miguel Resende - What are your main influences?

Víctor Rodolfo Jiménez - My inspiration and influences comes from everything: poetry, visual arts,

photographs, other filmmakers, even every day situations . I try to embrace

it all to help me guide me in the creative process.

Bruno Miguel Resende - Who is your favorite filmaker?

Víctor Rodolfo Jiménez - I got many favorite filmmakers, but I love the poetry in the films of the

Greek director Theo Angelopoulos, who passed away in 2012.

Bruno Miguel Resende - Who is your favorite writer?

Víctor Rodolfo Jiménez - Many, many of them, but one of my favorites writer is Ernesto Sabato.

Bruno Miguel Resende - The main focus of cinema is entertainment or art?

Víctor Rodolfo Jiménez - Is a very complex question, but I believe that we can have a balance

between art and entertainment. Personalty I like films that weaves

compelling narratives with visual poetry. Think of recent movies like

“Perfect Days” by Wim Wenders or “Past Lives” by Celine Song, those are

films that captivate both intellectually and emotionally. But to tell you

the truth, I also enjoy watching Hollywood Blockbusters.

Bruno Miguel Resende - What is utopia for you?

Víctor Rodolfo Jiménez - A world without wars and the ability just to work exclusively in your

passions. All of us deserve that. That will be great.

Bruno Miguel Resende - What is the main message of your film?

Víctor Rodolfo Jiménez -  Find beauty everywhere despite all the horrors that surround us everyday.

Bruno Miguel Resende - What is your next project?

Víctor Rodolfo Jiménez - A Video Poem about the senseless wars. I have the poems written already, I

just have to prepare and start filming.
