Interview with Svіtlana Novitska

Bruno Miguel Resende: Hi. Hope going well. We would like to make you some questions if you don't mind. Lakes is an end, a beginning or a transition?

Svіtlana Novitska: My movie The Lake is episode №3 of the unfinished web series Phantoms of the Old Town, in the style of urban legends. In total 5 episodes were planned, which I wanted to combine into a feature film. In addition to Ukrainians, many nationalities live in our region: Germans, Poles, Jews, Romanians and others. Each episode is dedicated to a different nationality.

BMR: Your film lakes takes us to an horror that we all face. Mirrors. What do you see in a mirror?

SN: Jewish history is very tragic not only in our country. Now extermination on

a national basis is happening to us.

BMR: What is Cinema to you?

SN: I've always liked cinema. And when I got the opportunity to make short

films, I got work experience.

BMR: Water is the strongest element of this film. What is the meaning of a Lake to you?

SN: I like the supernatural genre. It helps sharpen the senses. Water, as one

of the elements of nature, has a memory. With its help, psychics can find

out the past. Water has a magical effect in the movies.

BMR: And Ocean?

SN: The ocean for me is purity, strength, freedom. Although, I saw only the sea.

BMR: What path do you think Art is following?

SN: Now there is a pause in my work. First because of covid-19 and now because of the war. But for now I'm writing scripts and I hope that I can implement them.

BMR: What can you tell us about International Festivals in Ukraine?

SN: Before the war, there were many large and small film festivals in Ukraine,

not only in Kyiv. There I saw many foreign films. But my progress was better abroad than at home. Everything is relative.

BMR: The path is very dark. How do you think that it can be of more brightness?

SN: Our country will definitely win and be reborn like a phoenix from the ashes. We will become better, stronger and spiritually richer. Welcome to Ukraine!

BMR: Thank you very much and hope to see you soon!
