Interview with Mohammed Alshehhi
Bruno Miguel Resende - What is cinema for you?
Mohammed Alshehhi - Cinema, for me, is the ultimate medium of storytelling and expression.
It's a powerful tool through which I can share my thoughts, emotions, and
perspectives with audiences worldwide. Cinema has the unique ability to
transport viewers to different worlds, evoke deep emotions, and provoke
thought, making it an incredibly impactful art form.
Bruno Miguel Resende - What are your main influences?
Mohammed Alshehhi - My main influences come from a diverse range of sources, including
other filmmakers, literature, and personal experiences. Growing up in
Dubai, I was exposed to a melting pot of cultures, which greatly influenced
my worldview and artistic sensibilities. Additionally, I draw inspiration
from cinematic luminaries such as Steven Spielberg, Quentin Tarantino,
Martin Scorsese, and Alfred Hitchcock, each of whom has left an indelible
mark on the world of filmmaking.
Bruno Miguel Resende - Who is your favorite filmaker?
Mohammed Alshehhi - From my perspective as a filmmaker, Steven Spielberg is my favorite
filmmaker for several compelling reasons. Firstly, I deeply resonate with
Spielberg's ability to craft amazing narratives. As someone immersed in the
world of storytelling, I find his talent for creating engaging plots and
memorable characters truly inspiring. His films are not just entertainment;
they are immersive experiences that transport me to new worlds and engage
me in emotions. As a filmmaker, I understand the importance of using
visuals to enhance the storytelling experience, and Spielberg excels in
this regard. His films are filled with iconic imagery that lingers in my
mind long after the credits roll, from the awe-inspiring vistas of
"Jurassic Park" to the haunting scenes of "Schindler's List." I admire his
ability to explore complex themes with depth and nuance. Whether he's
delving into the horrors of war in "Saving Private Ryan" or the childhood
movie "E.T.," Spielberg approaches each subject with sensitivity and
insight, creating films that resonate with me on a profound emotional
level. He holds a special place in my heart as a filmmaker because his work
embodies the qualities and aspirations that I hold dear: compelling
storytelling, visual creativity, and the exploration of profound themes.
His films serve as a constant source of inspiration and motivation for me
as I strive to create my own cinematic masterpieces.
Bruno Miguel Resende - Who is your favorite writer?
Mohammed Alshehhi - STEPHEN KING.
Bruno Miguel Resende - The main focus of cinema is entertainment or art?
Mohammed Alshehhi - From my perspective, cinema can serve both entertainment and artistic
purposes. Some films aim to entertain audiences with thrilling plots and
captivating visuals, while others strive to provoke thought and evoke
emotions through artistic expression. Ultimately, the focus of cinema can
vary depending on the intent behind each project, whether it's to
entertain, inspire, or provoke.
Bruno Miguel Resende - What is utopia for you?
Mohammed Alshehhi - focused on harmony, peace, love, and kindness, everyone treats each
other with care and respect. People understand and appreciate each other's
differences, leading to unity instead of conflict. Kindness is the norm,
with individuals constantly looking out for one another. This creates a
peaceful society where everyone feels valued and supported, making life
better for all.
Bruno Miguel Resende - What is the main message of your film?
Mohammed Alshehhi - "A Gift Of Life" is a heartfelt story about love triumphing over
adversity, showcasing resilience, emotional depth, and personal growth. Set
in a hospital, two individuals with cystic fibrosis find connection and
hope amidst their struggles. Through visually captivating scenes and a
carefully curated soundtrack, the film explores the transformative power of
love, leaving a lasting impact on audiences.
Bruno Miguel Resende - What is your next project?
Mohammed Alshehhi - I am currently working on two features: Working names but they're
called *Lead by desire* and *Ruines in the family*. *Lead by desire* is
a story of a girl who's dealing with psychological issues which ruins her
marriage but discovers hidden truths about her husband which leads her to
seek love and appreciation elsewhere. Ruines in the family is a story based
in the 1980s about a woman who gets married to an older person who she took
care of at her elder care, revealing a disturbing family that is planning
his demise.
Bruno Miguel Resende - What is more important the text or the image?
Mohammed Alshehhi - I would say both have great significance because I see it from a
filmmaking standpoint, if there is no script there is no movie! meaning If
there is no text there is no image in the first place.
Bruno Miguel Resende - Thank you for your time.
